With Franchises becoming ever more popular as a way of getting into your own business, it sometimes seems that people forget to have a good hard think about what they are actually buying before they part with their hard earned cash. Just because something is a franchise doesnt mean it isnt without risk and just because it is a franchise it doesnt mean you shouldnt have a hard look at what you are getting for your dollars. The best example of this are 'service' franchises like dog washes or garden maintenance. From anything ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of dollars you get an 'exclusive' territory or area to call your own, a trailer with signage on it, the equipment you need, leads from advertising and of course a 'system' to run your business. You'll pay a lump sum up front and then monthly or annual fees to cover royalties and advertising. Realistically, what you will be asked to pay for these franchises is substantially more than it would cost you to simply buy and paint your own trailer, purchase equipment and take out some advertising. If you need a 'system' there are plenty of books, DVDs, websites etc to help you manage things plus of course your local bookkeeper or accountant can help you with the paper warfare. PLUS you can seek customers wherever you want, you arent paying for an area. Of course some people need the guidance provided by a head office but remember, this quidance is costing you BIG TIME. BIG money up front and money as you go, forever. By doing it yourself you can not only save yourself many thousands of dollars but you can go into your new business venture with a lot less pressure to recoup money you have outlayed. Remember, the number one asset of this or any other business is YOU. Your attitude towards your business, your attitude towards your customers, your attitude towards success is going to be the number one reason why your business succeeds or fails. Since you get you for free, why the hell would you want to pay thousands for the less important parts of the business. So have a good look at what you are thinking about buying. Is it really worth the money. Are you really buying something that you can't do yourself. Whats in the franchise? Add as favourites (36) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 294 | E-mail
